What I learned from my Mass Comm class Part 2

Jessica Michelle Hall Later in the semester, we had a guest speaker in our class, Jessica Michelle Hall, who is both a rockstar and a senior political research assistant. She spoke about the importance of building a personal brand and understanding what you want to communicate to your target audience. What I learned from my intro to mass comm class part 1

Tyler Perry  Early in the semester, we watched a video called Tyler Perry's Master Class at NABJ in Detroit. In the video, Tyler Perry talks about how he branded himself through his movies as a Black man in Hollywood. He offers valuable advice for people pursuing their careers, emphasizing, “Don’t run from where you came from,” and “Have a high risk endurance step out and do things you haven’t done.” Perry explains that while his films provide audiences with laughter, they also highlight important issues in the Black community, such as mental health and domestic violence. His stories focus on everyday people and carry meaningful messages. For example, his movie Diary of a Mad Black Woman inspired someone to leave an abusive relationship, as it centers on a woman dealing with a toxic husband. What I learned is that you'll always start from the bottom and will have to work yourself up to achieve what you want to do in life.
